Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Western Sydney.
Where are you based?
I am still based in Sydney.
What is your zodiac sign and do you align with it?
I am a Scorpio. I definitely align with Scorpio, I experience things very deeply and I feel I am a very intense and emotionally intuitive person. I strongly relate to and am always interested in themes of death, rebirth, unraveling and investigating deeper truths. I don’t mind the uncomfortable spaces.
What was your first experience with the arts where it felt meaningful?
I don’t think there was one specific moment or experience when art became meaningful to me because it has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have been making art since I was a child and it’s always been the most important thing to me. It’s my way of communication. I was never a super academic child or teenager, I was more often than not in my own world, taking photos, writing, drawing, painting, in garage band, in the dark room, dancing… Watching films, going to exhibitions and listening to music that was/ is very confronting and emotionally provoking to me has created an abundance of meanings and inspirations in my life.
What does storytelling teach you about yourself?
Story telling has taught me so so so much about myself, oh my goodness. Being in a creative space, making art, story telling, has helped me grow, expand, learn, heal and explore all the different relationships and perspectives we have with with ourselves, our cultures, our family, strangers and the world/ universe we live in… no matter if it’s in the positive, negative, the mundane or in the uncomfortable feelings and unspoken truths. It’s all about the journey.
Life is beautiful, it’s exciting it’s humbling, terrifying, confusing, challenging and forever changing. I love experiencing the highs of life and I also believe that the darker moments are just as important. I don’t think we should dismiss or rush any version of ourselves because you might just create your best work in those periods. And when you feel uninspired or your work is rejected along the way, you now have the capacity to get back up and redirect and rewrite your story and practice.
Something else I love about story feeling is that there are so many versions of these narratives, and so many perspectives. And these stories also just keep going, and going and going, you know time doesn’t stop, things keep happening. So it opens up this door to endless ideas, concepts, possibilities allowing my work, myself and my perspective to continue to grow and expand. It’s very exciting! I’m so lucky to have the opportunity every day to communicate my stories through music, photos and films.
What is your dream project?
I have so many dream projects! But I think right now it would be to create a film and music project exploring themes of rebirth, and relationships with pressure, time and expectation.
In a world moving at such a fast pace demanding so much of us, hitting tight deadlines, knowing our place in the rat race, experiencing immense pressure to be everything, do everything and to churn out endless content as though our art and ideas are being made in factories. I want to explore the internal monologue and experience of the slow artist.
We’ll see… stay tuned.
Who would you like to inspire?
Anyone… everyone!! This might sound weird but I think I want to continue to inspire myself mostly. I make things because it feels right and I enjoy the process. I listen to my art, I watch my art and hang it in my house. I can relate to no one better than my own self, so being around or immersing myself in my own creations feels like a safe space.
Art is honestly in its rawest form. It’s not always performative, it’s not always great or beautiful. It’s a language, and when people relate to my art or form a relationship with it, I feel like we can really see each other. I love to hear when people resonate or feel inspired by my work, because my creations aren’t super digestible or easy going most of the time so when it touches someone I know it’s with deep meaning, intensity and appreciation.
