Where: Chicago, IL
Sign: Pisces

Where are you from? I immigrated from Nigeria at the age of 10 but spent most of my developmental years in Ohio. After graduating from college, I moved to Chicago, where I am currently based.
Do you align with your astrological sign and what is it? I am definitely a Pisces to a tee. I really align with my astrological sign, especially in how I bring my imagination into reality.
Describe what it is you do. I am an all around creative. I graduated with a major in Industrial Design and currently work as a substitute teacher. When I am not working, lam usually sewing, painting, or doing some kind of DIY project.
Describe your favorite piece you've created. My favorite art project has been my most recent piece, "Rosemaria." Lately, I have been navigating feelings of loneliness and the transition into adulthood, especially missing my mom when the world feels a bit cold. This was the first time I was really able to articulate those emotions through painting, and I loved that experience.
What is your dream project? My dream project would be to collaborate with a local furniture manufacturing company to create unique, multi purpose furniture pieces that blend function with creative expression.
Where do you see your art fitting into your world? I see my art serving multiple purposes in the world. I can especially envision my clothing fitting into the fashion space for Black women who want to incorporate cultural pieces into their everyday style.
Who would you like to inspire? I want to be a role model for younger girls who look like me and are still trying to find their place. As the daughter of Nigerian immigrant parents, I remember feeling awkward growing up and sometimes shrinking myself in spaces where I did not feel represented. As I have gotten older, I have grown more confident, embracing my culture and finding ways to express my identity authentically. I want to show other women and young girls that they can do the same, take up space, be fully themselves, and feel proud of who they are.
